“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21
Good care and stewardship around this our resources are an indispensable element in the spiritual practice of the congregation. For, how we deal with and use our money and goods says everything about our mission. Generosity comes naturally when a congregation has a clarity of mission and an outward focus that serves the community and offers real, meaningful services to the congregation.
As an advocate for social justice, I will encourage any congregation I serve to send money from the offering plate – out the door and into the community. As a matter of principle, our financial resources should be shared and given to support community efforts that are in line with our mission.
